Halifax woman wins $1 million in Lotto 6/49 Super Draw
It’s certainly going to be a happy New Year for Linda Hartling.
The Halifax woman will be inviting her three sisters and sister-in-law to join her on a trip to the United Kingdom to visit family after winning $1-million.
Hartling won the Dec. 21 Lotto 6/49 Super Draw, playing numbers based on her relatives’ birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates.
When the long-time lottery player took her tickets in to get them checked last week, she knew something was different.
“There were other people there in the store, so [the employee] just very discretely pointed it out,” Hartling said in a news release.
According to the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, both she and the retailer had a hard time totalling up all the zeros in her prize.
“Neither one of us could make out the numbers because we were shaking so bad,” Hartling said.
Once she realized the amount she had won, Hartling kept the news mostly to herself over the holidays, telling only a few family members, including one of her sisters.
“I thought she was going to go through the floor, she was hollering and jumping up and down,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t wrap my head around it, even though I’ve seen the numbers and everything else. I just can’t do it.”
Hartling bought the winning ticket at Halifax Shopping Centre’s Lottoland, which will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
Other than taking her first trip outside of Canada, Hartling doesn’t have any other immediate plans for her winnings.
“I’m just going to keep on going to the mall and meet the girls. I’m not changing what I do,” she said.
That apparently includes playing Lotto 6/49.
“I’ve already got my tickets for Saturday night’s draw,” Hartling added. It's certainly going to be a happy New Year for Linda Hartling ]]>
