LANSING, MI — With a $640 million Powerball jackpot up for grabs on Saturday, Jan. 16, lottery players continue to look for any advantage that could bring them closer to the jackpot prize.
Some lottery players swear by a certain set of numbers that they’ve played for years and oftentimes have special meaning to them. Others go with the easy pick option, in the hopes that the randomly-generated combination brings them a huge win.
But there’s also those who like to play hot and cold streaks. They focus on the numbers that have been coming up most recently and try a combination of those. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million, so anything that brings players closer to the jackpot helps.
With that in mind, we crunched the numbers for 2020 and found that these were the luckiest and unluckiest numbers in 2020.
Here are the white Powerball numbers that were drawn the most in 2020:
- Drawn 14 times: 36
- Drawn 12 times: 27, 53
- Drawn 11 times: 2, 18, 21, 40, 47
These were the luckiest red Powerball numbers for 2020:
- Drawn 13 times: 18
- Drawn 8 times: 24
While those numbers were drawn more often than the others, these are the unluckiest white Powerball numbers drawn in 2020:
- Drawn 3 times: 26, 28, 66
- Drawn 4 times: 19, 22, 24, 25, 34, 38
As for the unluckiest red Powerball drawn in 2020, two numbers tied for the least-drawn numbers as they were never selected:
- Drawn zero times: 12, 15

The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.
And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland in 2019 went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
If you’d like to be the next player from Michigan to win a huge lottery prize, take a look at these tips from lottery expert Richard Lustig. The author of “Learn How To Increase Your Chances Of Winning The Lottery” has won more than $1 million in Florida by winning top jackpot prizes in smaller games.
